El Nissi (Jehovah Nissi) - (fu;j;ju; ek; nfhb)

|
Introduction
|
Nissi derived from ‘Nes’, is a hebrew word for ‘banner’. Moses recognized that the Lord was his banner under which he won the battle against the Amalekites. ‘Nes’ also refers to a pole, on which flags can be hung. In battle, opposing nations would fly their own flag on a pole at each of their respective front lines. This was to give their soldiers a feeling of hope and a focal point. This is what God is to us: a banner of encouragement to give us hope and a focal point.

We will rejoice in thy salvation, and in the name of our God we will set up our banners: the LORD fulfil all thy petitions.

2. Who is Amalek?
|
- They are descendants of Esau. Esau and Jacob were twin brothers. Jacob encounters God, however, Esau chooses his own life-style after ignoring his birthright. Esau begot Eliphaz and Eliphaz begot Amalek.

3. Esau’s grudge
|
- Esau bore a grudge towards Jacob, since Jacob stole the firstborn blessing also from his father Isaac. Esau’s grudge continued through his descendants. The Amalekites, came against Israel and continued their fight in the promised land.
-

And Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing wherewith his father blessed him: and Esau said in his heart, The days of mourning for my father are at hand; then will I slay my brother Jacob.
- The second battle was at Ai; Israelites went presumptuously and got defeated. The Lord was not with them. It is important that the “Lord be our banner”, all the time.

4. Keys to Victory against Amalekites
|
- We need to position ourselves to fight. Moses positioned himself on the mountain top, with the staff of God in hand.
-
ahj;jpuhfkk; 17:9. mg;nghOJ NkhNr NahRthit Nehf;fp: eP ekf;fhf kdpjiuj; njupe;Jnfhz;L> Gwg;gl;L> mkNyf;NfhNl Aj;jk;gz;Z; ehisf;F ehd; kiyAr;rpapy; NjtDila Nfhiy vd; ifapy; gpbj;Jf;nfhz;L epw;Ngd; vd;whd;.
And Moses said unto Joshua, Choose us out men, and go out, fight with Amalek: to morrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in mine hand.
- We need to obey as Joshua obeyed and went to fight
-
ahj;jpuhfkk; 17:10. NahRth jdf;F NkhNr nrhd;dgbNa nra;J> mkNyf;NfhNl Aj;jk; gz;zpdhd;. NkhNrAk; MNuhDk; Cu; vd;gtDk; kiyAr;rpapy; Vwpdhu;fs;.
So Joshua did as Moses had said to him, and fought with Amalek: and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill.
- Leaders need believer’s support to win the battle. Moses could not lift his hand alone. He needed the team to support him in intercession. The Israelites were winning, when the hand was high, and losing when the hand was down. In order to keep winning, we need a constant support from the believers/prayer warriors.
-
ahj;jpuhfkk; 17:11. NkhNr jd; ifia VnwLj;jpUf;ifapy;> ,];uNtyu; Nkw;nfhz;lhu;fs;; mtd; jd; ifiaj; jhotpLifapy;> mkNyf;F Nkw;nfhz;lhd;.
And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed: and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed.
- Keep on fighting and praying, till the sun goes down; till the battle is won;
-
ahj;jpuhfkk; 17:12. NkhNrapd;iffs; mru;e;JNghapw;W> mg;nghOJ mtu;fs; xU fy;iyf; nfhz;Lte;J mtd; fPNo itj;jhu;fs;; mjpd;Nky; cl;fhu;e;jhd;; MNuhDk; CUk; xUtd; xU gf;fj;jpYk; xUtd; kW gf;fj;jpYk; ,Ue;J> mtd; iffisj; jhq;fpdhu;fs;; ,t;tpjkha; mtd; iffs; R+upad; m];jkpf;Fk;tiuf;Fk; xNu epiyahapUe;jJ.
But Moses' hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat thereon; and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.

5. The battle belongs to the Lord
|

The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but safety is of the LORD.

7. Put a complete end to the Amalekites
|
- God wants us to fight and win against the enemy. We must overcome and utterly destroy the Amalekites from our lives.

Therefore it shall be, when the LORD thy God hath given thee rest from all thine enemies round about, in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance to possess it, that thou shalt blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven; thou shalt not forget it.

Conclusion
|
We must hold the banner of Jesus Christ always. Banner represents the badge, or insignia (medal that identifies Christ). Banner also symbolizes His presence. When Amalekites come, we should not depend on our zeal or ingenuity, but come into His presence, and put your trust on the victory flag, which gives strength, direction and focal point.
