El Etymology

Jewish scholars believe that the unique name of God cannot be said ‘aloud’ since the name of God (YHVH) is holy and cannot be taken in vain. God’s unique name is unutterable. Since the LORD is unique, without rival, the Creator and LORD who is answerable to no one, He cannot be named. However God reveals himself as ‘I AM THAT I AM’ (YHWH) and throughout the scripture, we see the attributes or characteristics of God revealed to us. The multiplicity of names refers to different aspects of revelation rather than supposing that there is multiplicity of deities. Studying these attributes or names of God provide us different portraits of God’s revealed character in the bible.

El Shamma (LORD is There)

El Shalom (LORD is Peace)

El Saboath (LORD of Hosts)

Introduction
In this lesson, we will learn about the remaining three names of God. This lesson marks the end of our series on the names of God.

El Shamma (LORD is There)

1. El Shamma (meaning the Lord is There) speaks of the city of Jerusalem.
  1. Jerusalem is the city from where the Lord will rule and reign on earth. Ezekiel describes the city as ‘El Shamma’ (the Lord is There).
    1. vNrf;fpNay; 48:35. Rw;wpYk; mjpd; msT gjpndz;zhapuq;NfhyhFk;; me;ehs;Kjy; efuk; NaNfhth \k;kh vd;Dk; ngau;ngWk;.
It was round about eighteen thousand measures: and the name of the city from that day shall be, The LORD is there.
  2. El Shamma refers to the City of Jerusalem in the millennium (age of 1000 year reign of Christ). John, in the book of revelation talks of the new city of Jerusalem that comes down from heaven.
    1. ntsp 21:1. gpd;G> ehd; Gjpa thdj;ijAk; Gjpa G+kpiaAk; fz;Nld;; Ke;jpd thdKk; Ke;jpd G+kpAk; xope;JNghapd; rKj;jpuKk; ,y;yhkw;Nghapw;W.
And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.
    2. 2. Nahthdhfpa ehd;> Gjpa vUrNykhfpa gupRj;j efuj;ij Njtdplj;jpdpd;W guNyhfj;ijtpl;L ,wq;fptuf;fz;Nld;; mJ jd; GU\Df;fhf myq;fupf;fg;gl;l kzthl;biag;Nghy Maj;jkhf;fg;gl;bUe;jJ.
And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

2. When will Jehovah be There?
  1. Christ will first take vengeance on his enemies at the end of Great Tribulation. Then the Lord Himself will sit and reign for a 1000 years. Jesus will ‘be There’.
    1. ntsp 19:11. gpd;G> guNyhfk; jpwe;jpUf;ff;fz;Nld;; ,Njh> xU nts;isf;Fjpiu fhzg;gl;lJ> mjpd;Nky; VwpapUe;jtu; cz;ikAk; rj;jpaKKs;stnud;dg;gl;ltu;; mtu; ePjpaha; epahae;jPu;j;J Aj;jk;gz;Zfpwhu;.
And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.
    2. ntsp 20:6. Kjyhk; capu;j;njOjYf;Fg; gq;Fs;std; ghf;fpathDk; gupRj;jthDkhapUf;fpwhd;; ,tu;fs;Nky; ,uz;lhk; kuzj;jpw;F mjpfhukpy;iy. ,tu;fs; NjtDf;Fk; fpwp];JTf;Fk; Kd;ghf> MrhupauhapUe;J> mtNuhNl$l Mapuk; tU\k; murhSthu;fs;.
Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.

3. What will it be like when El Shamma is there?
  1. When Jesus is in the City, (When the Lord is There), it will be a place of fire, brightness and manifested (Shekinah) glory of God.
    1. vNrf;fpNay; 1:26. mitfspd; jiyfSf;FNkYs;s kz;lyj;jpd;kPjpy; ePyuj;jpdk;Nghy tpsq;Fk; xU rpq;fhrdj;jpd; rhaYk;> me;jr; rpq;fhrdj;jpd; rhaypd;Nky; kD\rhaYf;F xj;j xU rhaYk; ,Ue;jJ.
And above the firmament that was over their heads was the likeness of a throne, as the appearance of a sapphire stone: and upon the likeness of the throne was the likeness as the appearance of a man above upon it.

And I saw as the colour of amber, as the appearance of fire round about within it, from the appearance of his loins even upward, and from the appearance of his loins even downward, I saw as it were the appearance of fire, and it had brightness round about.
    3. 28. kionga;Ak; ehspy; Nkfj;jpy; thdtpy; vg;gbf; fhzg;gLfpwNjh> mg;gbNa Rw;wpYKs;s me;jg; gpufhrk; fhzg;gl;lJ; ,JNt fu;j;jUila kfpikapd; rhaYf;Fupa juprdkhapUe;jJ; mij ehd; fz;lNghJ Kfq;Fg;Gw tpOe;Njd;; mg;nghOJ NgRfpw xUtUila rj;jj;ijf; Nfl;Nld;.
As the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud in the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness round about. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD. And when I saw it, I fell upon my face, and I heard a voice of one that spake.
