The Why of Prayer
Introduction
Prayer is not a choice, but something that is inevitable. Prayer is a must because none of our requests are going to be answered until we pray. In this lesson, we will see why we must pray. Dr Munroe (2002) posited that, “Prayer is man giving God the legal right and permission to interfere in earth’s affairs. Prayer is a terrestrial license for celestial interference” (p. 15).
Why of Prayer
1. Prayers are a must for God to interfere on earth.
- God cannot answer unless we ask Him in Prayer.
-

If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
- It is the key to unlock heaven
-

And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
2. The answer from God depends on our call
- God wants us to ask Him. He moves when we ask Him. He is not obligated to move, until we ask Him.
-
vNukpah 33:3. vd;id Nehf;fpf; $g;gpL> mg;nghOJ ehd; cdf;F cj;juT nfhLj;J> eP mwpahjJk; cdf;F vl;lhjJkhd ngupa fhupaq;fis cdf;F mwptpg;Ngd;.
Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.
3. Assurance of God in prayer
- Jesus assured us, that God will hear and answer our prayers. Your prayer will be answered when it is directed to God and as we abide in His will.
-
khw;F 11:24. Mjyhy;> ePq;fs; n[gk;gz;Zk;NghJ vitfisf; Nfl;Lf;nfhs;tPu;fNsh> mitfisg; ngw;Wnfhs;Nthk; vd;W tpRthrpAq;fs;> mg;nghOJ mitfs; cq;fSf;F cz;lhFk; vd;W nrhy;YfpNwd;.
Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.
- He answers to make us Joyful
-

Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.
4. Prayer is meant to be answered
- If prayer was not meant to be answered, then God would not have asked us to pray. Jesus is also interested in results. Jesus prayed with an expectation of results.
-
Nahthd; 11:41. mg;nghOJ kupj;jtd; itf;fg;gl;l ,lj;jpypUe;j fy;iy vLj;Jg;Nghl;lhu;fs;. ,NaR jk;Kila fz;fis VnwLj;J: gpjhNt> ePu; vdf;Fr; nrtpnfhLj;jgbapdhy; ck;ik ];Njhj;jpupf;fpNwd;.
Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me.
-

And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me.
5. Prayer may be delayed. But do not give up.
- Jesus wants us to pray without giving up.
-
Y}f;fh 18:1. Nrhu;e;JNghfhky; vg;nghOJk; n[gk;gz;zNtz;Lk; vd;gijf; Fwpj;J mtu;fSf;F mtu; xU ctikiar; nrhd;dhu;.
And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;
6. Pray without ceasing
- Prayer is not an option. It is the will of God that we should pray.
-
16. vg;nghOJk; re;Njh\khapUq;fs;.
Rejoice evermore.
-
17. ,iltplhky; n[gk;gz;Zq;fs;.
Pray without ceasing.
-
18. vy;yhtw;wpNyAk; ];Njhj;jpuQ;nra;Aq;fs;; mg;gbr; nra;tNj fpwp];J ,NaRTf;Fs; cq;fisf;Fwpj;Jj; NjtDila rpj;jkhapUf;fpwJ.
In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
-
19. Mtpia mtpj;Jg;NghlhjpUq;fs;.
Quench not the Spirit.
7. Holy Spirit was given, so we can pray effectively
- Holy Spirit groans within us crying ‘Abba Father’. We should not quench the Spirit that connects us to the Father
-
Nuhku; 8:15. me;jg;gb> jpUk;gTk;gag;gLfpwjw;F ePq;fs; mbikj;jdj;jpd; Mtpiag; ngwhky;> mg;gh gpjhNt> vd;W $g;gplg;gz;Zfpw Gj;jpu Rtpfhuj;jpd; Mtpiag; ngw;wPu;fs;.
For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
-
26. me;jg;gbNa MtpahdtUk; ekJ gytPdq;fspy; ekf;F cjtpnra;fpwhu;. ehk; Vw;wgb Ntz;bf;nfhs;sNtz;bajpd;dnjd;W mwpahkypUf;fpwgbahy;> Mtpahdtu;jhNk thf;Ff;flq;fhj ngU%r;RfNshL ekf;fhf Ntz;Ljy;nra;fpwhu;.
Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
Conclusion
Prayer is therefore, not an option, but a necessity for our successful living. When we pray according to God’s will, all our prayers will be answered. Prayer can be delayed but not denied.
-
1 John 5:14. ehk; vijahfpYk; mtUila rpj;jj;jpd;gbNfl;lhy;> mtu; ekf;Fr; nrtpnfhLf;fpwhnud;gNj mtiug; gw;wp ehk; nfhz;bUf;fpw ijupak;.
And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:
