Dimensions of Prayer

Lesson - 3

Authority of Prayer

Introduction
As the first man (Adam) sinned, sin and death came. But the last Adam, through obedience to God, conquered sin and death, and restored our relationship with God and our authority over the powers of darkness. In this lesson, let us focus on the Authority of Prayer. God can do mighty things on earth when we ask him in Prayer and exercise the authority we have in Prayer. Prayer is the medium through which heaven affects the earth.

Authority of Prayer

1. Original Purpose of Man
  1. Man was created to rule and reign. He had authority and sovereignty on earth to name establish the kingdom of heaven on earth. However Satan was able to usurp this authority from the first man.
    1. Mjpahfkk; 1:28. gpd;G Njtd; mtu;fis Nehf;fp: ePq;fs; gYfpg; ngUfp> G+kpia epug;gp> mijf; fPo;g;gLj;jp> rKj;jpuj;jpd; kr;rq;fisAk; Mfhaj;Jg; gwitfisAk;> G+kpapd;Nky; elkhLfpw rfy [Pt[e;Jf;fisAk; Mz;Lnfhs;Sq;fs; vd;W nrhy;yp> Njtd; mtu;fis MrPu;tjpj;jhu;. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

2. Restoration of lost Authority through the Second Adam
  1. After Adam sinned, the man lost the authority to the devil. Sin came and through sin came death. However, God is faithful in His promises. He decides to restore back the original purpose of man, by sending His own Son, in the likeness of man, but born without Sin, to die in our place.
    1. I nfhupe;jpau; 15:21. kD\dhy; kuzk; cz;lhdgbahy;> kD\dhy; kupj;Njhupd; capu;j;njOjYk; cz;lhapw;W.
      For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.
    2. 22. MjhKf;Fs; vy;yhUk; kupf;fpwJNghy> fpwp];JTf;Fs; vy;yhUk; capu;g;gpf;fg;gLthu;fs;.
      For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.

3. Christ restored the Authority
  1. Jesus, by overcoming death and destroying the enemy of death, restored authority back to us.
    1. I nfhupe;jpau; 15:25. vy;yhr; rj;JUf;fisAk; jkJ ghjj;jpw;Ff; fPohf;fpg;NghLk;tiuf;Fk;> mtu; MSifnra;aNtz;baJ.
      For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet.
    2. 26. gupfupf;fg;gLq; filrpr; rj;JU kuzk;.
      The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.

      For he hath put all things under his feet. But when he saith all things are put under him, it is manifest that he is excepted, which did put all things under him.
  2. Jesus received all authority from the Father, by His obedience to the Father and by seeking the will of the Father.
    1. kj;NjA 28:18. mg;nghOJ ,NaR rkPgj;jpy; te;J> mtu;fis Nehf;fp: thdj;jpYk; G+kpapYk; rfy mjpfhuKk; vdf;Ff; nfhLf;fg;gl;bUf;fpwJ.
      And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

      Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

4. We receive Authority by seeking His Will (not my will but Your will O God)
  1. Jesus prayed according to the will of the Father. This gave him Authority over all sicknesses and diseases, and the power to do the will of the Father. We must seek the will of God in everything we do so that we can receive the authority and power.
    1. kj;NjA 26:39. rw;W mg;Gwk;Ngha;> Kfq;Fg;Gw tpOe;J: vd; gpjhNt> ,e;jg;ghj;jpuk; vd;idtpl;L ePq;ff;$Lkhdhy; ePq;Fk;gbnra;Ak;; MfpYk; vd; rpj;jj;jpd;gbay;y> ck;Kila rpj;jj;jpd;gbNa Mff;fltJ vd;W n[gk;gz;zpdhu;.
      And he went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.
  2. Jesus did not come to do his own will, but the will of His Father.
    1. 30. ehd; vd; Rakha; xd;WQ;nra;fpwjpy;iy; ehd; Nfl;fpwgbNa epahae;jPu;f;fpNwd;; vdf;Fr; rpj;jkhdij ehd; Njlhky;> vd;id mDg;gpd gpjhTf;Fr; rpj;jkhdijNa ehd; NjLfpwgbahy; vd; jPu;g;G ePjpahapUf;fpwJ.
      I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.

5. We receive Authority by being close to Christ.
  1. We receive the authority of prayer, by being close to God. It is not possible to exercise dominion on earth without being close to God. Jesus demonstrated his closeness with the Father.
    1. Nahthd; 3:35. gpjhthdtu; Fkhudpy; md;ghapUe;J vy;yhtw;iwAk; mtu; ifapy; xg;Gf;nfhLj;jpUf;fpwhu;.
      The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand.
  2. Jesus was close to God and one with God.
    1. Nahthd; 10:30. ehDk; gpjhTk; xd;whapUf;fpNwhk; vd;whu;.
      I and my Father are one.

6. Prayer in the name of Jesus gives authority to Bind or Loose
  1. At the name of Jesus, every knee shall bow. we must use the name of Jesus in our prayer, so that we can exercise the authority that the Lord has given to us.
    1. gpypg;gpau; 2:10. ,NaRtpd; ehkj;jpy; thNdhu; G+jyj;Njhu; G+kpapd; fPohNdhUila Koq;fhy; ahTk; Klq;Fk;gbf;Fk;>
      That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
    2. khw;F 16:17. tpRthrpf;fpwtu;fshy; elf;Fk; milahsq;fshtd: vd; ehkj;jpdhNy gprhRfisj; Juj;Jthu;fs;. etkhd ghi\fisg; NgRthu;fs;;
      And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
  2. God have given authority in prayer, to bind those things that can be bound and to loose those things that need to be loosed. We can bind the works of Satan. We can let loose things that have been bound demonically.
    1. kj;NjA 18:18. G+Nyhfj;jpNy ePq;fs; vitfisf; fl;LtPu;fNsh mitfs; guNyhfj;jpYk; fl;lg;gl;bUf;Fk;; G+Nyhfj;jpNy ePq;fs; vitfisf; fl;ltpo;g;gPu;fNsh mitfs; guNyhfj;jpYk; fl;ltpo;f;fg;gLk; vd;W nka;ahfNt cq;fSf;Fr; nrhy;YfpNwd;.
      Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
    2. 19. my;yhkYk;> cq;fspy; ,uz;LNgu; jhq;fs; Ntz;bf;nfhs;sg;Nghfpw ve;jf; fhupaj;ijf;Fwpj;jhfpYk; G+kpapNy xUkdg;gl;bUe;jhy;> guNyhfj;jpypUf;fpw vd; gpjhtpdhy; mJ mtu;fSf;F cz;lhFk; vd;W cq;fSf;Fr; nrhy;YfpNwd;.
      Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.

7. Greater things you can do in Prayer and we can do nothing without Prayer
  1. We can do greater things in quantity (not in quality), than what Jesus did. Jesus did many miracles. Through the power of prayer and the authority we have in Christ, we can do even greater things.
    1. Nahthd; 14:12. nka;ahfNt nka;ahfNt ehd; cq;fSf;Fr; nrhy;YfpNwd;; ehd; vd; gpjhtpdplj;jpw;Fg; Nghfpwgbapdhy;> vd;id tpRthrpf;fpwtd; ehd; nra;fpwfpupiafisj; jhDk; nra;thd;> ,itfisg;ghu;f;fpYk; ngupa fpupiafisAk; nra;thd;.
      Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
    2. 13. ePq;fs; vd; ehkj;jpdhNy vijf; Nfl;gPu;fNsh> Fkhudpy; gpjh kfpikg;gLk;gbahf> mijr; nra;Ntd;.
      And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

Conclusion
Prayer is the vehicle by which we can commune with God. Prayer gives us Authority to bind and to loose. Prayer gives authority to preach the gospel, to heal the sick and to cast out demons. Authority has become possible, because of the restored relationship that we have with the Father through Jesus Christ. Let us pray that the will of God be done on earth and in our lives.
