A Dallas Tamil Church Bible Study
|
The goal of this study is to study the enemy that exists who is a defeated foe. He will be eventually pushed into the lake of fire, but until then roars like a lion to devour as many as he can. Jesus destroyed the works of the devil and gave us authority to cast him out of our lives.

Combating Satan with Helmet of Salvation
(rhj;jhid vjpHj;Jg; Nghuhl ,ul;rpg;gpd; jiyf;ftrk;)
|
|
Introduction
|
Satan is the father of lies. His continued lies can be fought with the Helmet of Salvation. St. Paul encourages us to put on the Helmet of Salvation. In this lesson, we will see the dimensions of the Helmet of Salvation as defined in the book of Ephesians.

Helmet of Salvation
|
|
1. Definition of Helmet of Salvation
|
|
- Helmet provides protection. The original helmet (called a coolus) was like a metal skull cap made of iron covered with bronze (Richards, 2013, p.34). Roman helmet was redesigned with a piece added to protect the face and the back of the neck. This helmet, called a galea, provided complete protection for the head. The apostle Paul reminds us to be transformed by the renewing of the mind.

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
- Salvation provides a unique perspective of who we are. When we understand what God has done to provide salvation, we begin to grasp how truly we are significant and how much we are loved. For example, Satan tempts us to be think of ourselves as defeated weaklings, wheres God calls us warriors (more than Conquerors)

Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us
- Salvation is a great salvation. God provided this great salvation, to disengage from the thoughts and works of the devil and to be transformed into the image and likeness of Jesus Christ.

2. God’s Role In Salvation
|
|
- God the Father, blessed us in heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing. Heavenly realms are the places where the forces of evil launch their attacks. Since we are blessed in the heavenly realms, we are guarded against the attacks of the devil.
-

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:
- God the Father, chose us even before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless. While Satan makes us believe that no one loves us, God the Father loves us long before we were born and will continue to love us forever.
-

According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:
- God the Father, predestined us as his sons and daughters through Jesus Christ. God marked us before the foundation of the world. Satan says, ‘You are nothing’. But the truth is that we are adopted to reign together with Christ (join-heirs to the throne).God blessed us, chose us and adopted us with delight.

3. Jesus’ Role in Salvation
|
|
- Jesus gave us the free gift of Salvation. Nothing that we can do can repay Christ for His sacrifice. Jesus loved us and Satan wants to take away our Joy of Salvation in Christ. Not only he raised us, but also seated us together with him in heavenly places.
-
vNgrpau; 2:6. fpwp];J ,NaRTf;Fs; mtu; ek;kplj;jpy; itj;j jatpdhNy> jk;Kila fpUigapd; kfh Nkd;ikahd IRtupaj;ij tUq;fhyq;fspy; tpsq;fr;nra;tjw;fhf>

That in the ages to come he might show the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.
-
8. fpUigapdhNy tpRthrj;ijf;nfhz;L ,ul;rpf;fg;gl;Bu;fs;; ,J cq;fshy; cz;lhdjy;y> ,J NjtDila ;
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
- Jesus redeemed us with His blood and provided forgiveness of sins. Through Jesus, we receive the riches of His grace. While the devil wants to remind us of our past, Jesus forgives the past and gives us eternal life (no good thing will He withhold from us). Through Jesus, we receive the riches of his grace (i.e. Jesus will be there in all our life’s situations).
-

In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;
- Jesus made a way to receive inheritance. The gift of salvation not only provides everlasting life but also inheritance in Christ. God saved us so we can glorify him forever. This is our destiny: ‘To the praise of His glory” (to praise and glorify God and enjoy Him forever).
-

In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:

That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.
|
|
4. Holy Spirit’s Role in Salvation
|
|
- When we are saved, the Holy Spirit comes to dwell in us. We are marked with a seal. The seal is the Holy Spirit Himself.
-
vNgrpau; 1:13. ePq;fSk; cq;fs; ,ul;rpg;gpd; RtpNr\khfpa rj;jpa trdj;ijf; Nfl;L> tpRthrpfshdNghJ> thf;Fj;jj;jk;gz;zg;gl;l gupRj;j Mtpahy; mtUf;Fs; Kj;jpiuNghlg;gl;Bu;fs;.
In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,
- It is the Holy Spirit that unites us with one another and brings us into fellowship with God.
-
I nfhupe;jpau; 12:13. ehk; A+juhapDk;> fpNuf;fuhapDk;> mbikfshapDk;> RahjPduhapDk;> vy;yhUk; xNu MtpapdhNy xNu ruPuj;jpw;Fs;shf Qhd];ehdk;gz;zg;gl;L> vy;yhUk; xNu Mtpf;Fs;shfNt jhfe;jPu;f;fg;gl;Nlhk;.
For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
|
|
5. Put on the helmet of Salvation
|
|
- We can put on the helmet of Salvation by continuously reminding ourselves of the Word of God and saying no to all the lies of the devil.
- Satan’s lies (Richards, 2013, p.32)
- Resist these lies of the devil
I am stupid |
No one will ever love me |
It is better to die |
I am ugly |
I don’t deserve to be happy |
There is no use trying |
I am nothing |
God cannot love me |
It is always my fault |
I am weak, no good |
God must hate me |
I hate myself |
I might as well die |
I am a bad person |
Nobody cares |
It will never get better |
I am going to die alone |
Nothing I do is important |
I have never done anything good |
I deserve to be miserable |
- These thoughts come from the evil one and keeps us from what God thinks about us. We are wonderfully and skillfully made in His image and likeness.
- We can put on the helmet of Salvation by continuously reminding ourselves of the Word of God and saying no to all the lies of the devil.
- Renew our minds with the words of King David,
-

Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.
- We were bought with a price. We are precious to God. Praise the Lord for his marvellous works. Salvation was not free. It was bought with a heavy price.
-

Conclusion
|
King David reminds us that we are wonderfully made. The lies of Satan cannot overwhelm us. The truth is, ‘we are more than conquerors’. We will reign with God forever and ever. Christ redeemed us from the curse of law and translated us from the power of darkness into the kingdom of His light. We will rejoice in this great salvation and continuously put on the helmet of salvation to overcome the fiery darts of the wicked one.
