Christ - The Messianic Son of God
Introduction
Christ was born in the lineage of Abraham. To be the Jewish Messiah, Christ has to be born of Messianic line. Christ becomes a Messiah for the Jews and the Gentiles, because of the Messianic Sonship. In this lesson, we can find the messianic roots of Christ in order to prove the messianic sonship of Christ.
Messianic Son of God
1. Christ in the history of Creation
- The account of creation written through Moses is firmly believed by the Jews. Paul asserts that Jesus was present in creation and that creation was done through Him, Christ himself being the agent of creation.

For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
2. Christ was prophesied to be born under the law to redeem those under the law.
- If Christ has to redeem Jews and Gentiles, He has to be a descendant of Abraham who had the covenant of Circumcision. Jesus was under the law and had to be circumcised according to the Abrahamic Covenant.
-

3. Christ was to be the Seed of Abraham. .
- It was foretold in the old testament, that the Messiah would come through the Seed of Abraham. Through this Seed, God had plans to save Jews and Gentiles. Thus Christ was not just a Son of God, but a messianic Son of God, promising redemption the Jews first and also to the entire world (Gentiles)

4. Christ was in Exodus. Jewish Redemption is symbolic of Christ’s Redemption
- Exodus is the story of Redemption. The Israelites were rescued from bondage to freedom. Jesus rescued us from Sin and Slavery brought redemption and forgiveness of sins. The result of Christ’s work is ‘sharing in the inheritance’.
-

5. Christ is in the giving of the Law. The Messiah fulfilled the law.
- Christ is the fulfillment of the law. Law came through Moses, but Christ becomes the fulfillment of the law. He paid the penalty and was the sinless lamb to fulfill every qualification of the sacrifice. He also is the high priest who did not sin, that carrying out all the requirements of the law.
-

For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.
- Jesus came to fulfill the law, and not to destroy it. This proves the messianic fulfillment that Christ came to be Messiah for both the Jews and Gentiles
-

6. Christ was the Davidic Son of God
- Jesus Christ is portrayed as the Son of David. David was King of Israel and a beloved of God. Jesus comes in the lineage of David, and becomes the Anointed and begotten Son of God. Davidic sonship supports the Messianic sonship of Christ.
-

- Jesus is not just one more line of David. Jesus is the only incarnate Son of God and who in his incarnation reveals sonship and true kingship. He came not only for Jews but also for the entire world.
-

8. Christ as the Messiah of Eschatological people of God

Conclusion
Christ is the beginning and end of the law. Law was given through Moses, and grace and truth came through Jesus christ. Jesus becomes the messianic son of God, and he is the Messiah that the Jewish people awaited for. Not only is He the promised Messiah for Jews, He is also the Messiah of the eschatological people (Jews and Gentiles) of God. He will come back to reign and dwell among the one united congregation.
