Christ - the Exalted Lord

Introduction

Jesus Christ is the Exalted Lord. Christ first descended and then ascended. As Jesus humbled himself to come down from heaven, God exalted Him above every name and gave Him a place far above all heavens, principalities and powers. In this lesson we shall study Christ as the Exalted Lord.

The Exalted Lord

1. Lord’s Name was exalted above every name
  1. Because Jesus humbled Himself, God exalted His Name above everything in the universe.
    1. gpypg;gpau; 2:8. mtu; kD\&gkha;f; fhzg;gl;L> kuzgupae;jk;> mjhtJ rpYitapd; kuzgupae;jKk; fPo;g;gbe;jtuhfp> jk;ikj;jhNk jho;j;jpdhu;.
And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
    2. 9. Mjyhy; Njtd; vy;yhtw;wpw;Fk; Nkyhf mtiu cau;j;jp>
Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
    3. 10. ,NaRtpd; ehkj;jpy; thNdhu; G+jyj;Njhu; G+kpapd; fPohNdhUila Koq;fhy; ahTk; Klq;Fk;gbf;Fk;>
      That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
    4. 11. gpjhthfpa NjtDf;F kfpikahf ,NaRfpwp];J fu;j;jnud;W ehTfs; ahTk; mwpf;ifgz;Zk;gbf;Fk;> vy;yh ehkj;jpw;Fk; Nkyhd ehkj;ij mtUf;Fj; je;jUspdhu;.
And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
  2. Salvation is possible only by confessing the exalted Name of Christ. Paul believed in the monotheistic reality that there is only one God and salvation is possible only through the exalted Lord. Peter also affirmed that there is no other name on earth which we can be saved.
    1. Nuhku; 10:9. vd;dntd;why;> fu;j;juhfpa ,NaRit eP cd; thapdhNy mwpf;ifapl;L> Njtd; mtiu kupj;NjhupypUe;J vOg;gpdhnud;W cd; ,Ujaj;jpNy tpRthrpj;jhy; ,ul;rpf;fg;gLtha;.
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
    2. mg;Ngh];jyu; 4:12. mtuhNyad;wp NtnwhUtuhYk; ,ul;rpg;G ,y;iy; ehk; ,ul;rpf;fg;gLk;gbf;F thdj;jpd; fPnoq;Fk;> kD\u;fSf;Fs;Ns mtUila ehkNkay;yhky; NtnwhU ehkk; fl;lisaplg;glTk; ,y;iy vd;whd;.
Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
  3. There is no other name. Because there is no other name, Paul affirms that the “gods” and “lords” of the pagan temples do not exist. If there are no other “gods” and “lords”, Paul concludes that the the pagan temples are nothing but dwelling place of demons, and believers in Christ as Lord cannot eat at the Lord’s Table and at the table of demons.
    1. I nfhupe;jpau; 10:20. mQ;Qhdpfs; gypapLfpwitfis NjtDf;F my;y> Nga;fSf;Nf gypapLfpwhu;fnsd;W nrhy;YfpNwd;; ePq;fs; Nga;fNshNl If;fpakhapUf;f vdf;F kdjpy;iy.
But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils.
    2. 21. ePq;fs; fu;j;jUila ghj;jpuj;jpYk; Nga;fSila ghj;jpuj;jpYk; ghdk;gz;zf;$lhNj; ePq;fs; fu;j;jUila Ngh[dge;jpf;Fk; Nga;fSila Ngh[dge;jpf;Fk; gq;Fs;stu;fshapUf;ff;$lhNj.
Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord's table, and of the table of devils.

2. Exalted risen Lord was given every divine privilege
  1. Christ, the exalted Lord, was given every divine privilege. The promise of every knee bowing before him and every tongue confessing him as God alone has now been transferred to the risen and exalted Lord Jesus Christ (Fee, 2007, p.565).
    1. gpypg;gpau; 2:10. ,NaRtpd; ehkj;jpy; thNdhu; G+jyj;Njhu; G+kpapd; fPohNdhUila Koq;fhy; ahTk; Klq;Fk;gbf;Fk;>
      That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
    2. 11. gpjhthfpa NjtDf;F kfpikahf ,NaRfpwp];J fu;j;jnud;W ehTfs; ahTk; mwpf;ifgz;Zk;gbf;Fk;> vy;yh ehkj;jpw;Fk; Nkyhd ehkj;ij mtUf;Fj; je;jUspdhu;.
And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

3. Jesus is exalted Lord, also in the eschatological world.
  1. Jesus is the exalted Lord, in the eschatological (final) world too, as described in the book of Revelation. The kingdoms of this world will become the kingdoms of the exalted Lord.
    1. ntsp 11:15. Vohk; J}jd; vf;fhsk; Cjpdhd;; mg;nghOJ cyfj;jpd; uh[;aq;fs; ek;Kila fu;j;jUf;Fk;> mtUila fpwp];JTf;FKupa uh[;aq;fshapd; mtu; rjhfhyq;fspYk; uh[;aghuk; gz;Zthu; vd;Dk; nfk;gPu rj;jq;fs; thdj;jpy; cz;lhapd.
And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.
    2. 16. mg;nghOJ NjtDf;F Kd;ghfj; jq;fs; rpq;fhrdq;fs;Nky; cl;fhu;e;jpUe;j ,Ugj;Jehd;F %g;gu;fSk; Kfq;Fg;Gw tpOe;J:
And the four and twenty elders, which sat before God on their seats, fell upon their faces, and worshipped God,
    3. 17. ,Uf;fpwtUk; ,Ue;jtUk; tUfpwtUkhfpa ru;tty;yikAs;s fu;j;juhfpa NjtNd> ck;ik ];Njhj;jpupf;fpNwhk;> NjtuPu; ckJ kfh ty;yikiaf;nfhz;L uh[;aghuk;gz;ZfpwPu;.
Saying, We give thee thanks, O Lord God Almighty, which art, and wast, and art to come; because thou hast taken to thee thy great power, and hast reigned.

4. Calling on the Exalted Lord
  1. The title “Lord” was attributed to Christ just like Yahweh to God, in the old testament. Each one can be saved only by calling on the name of the exalted Lord. Joel, in the Old Testament, predicts the coming of the Holy Spirit and the Second coming of Jesus Christ, as the exalted Lord and those call on the Lord will be saved.
    1. NahNty; 2:28. mjw;Fg; gpd;G ehd; khk;rkhd ahtu;NkYk; vd; Mtpia Cw;WNtd;; mg;nghOJ cq;fs; FkhuUk; cq;fs; Fkhuj;jpfSk; jPu;f;fjuprdQ; nrhy;Ythu;fs;; cq;fs; %g;gu; nrhg;gdq;fisAk;> cq;fs; thypgu; juprdq;fisAk; fhz;ghu;fs;.
And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:
    2. 29. Copaf;fhuu;NkYk; Copaf;fhupfs;NkYk;> me;ehl;fspNy vd; Mtpia Cw;WNtd;.
And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit.
    3. 30. thdj;jpYk; G+kpapYk; ,uj;jk; mf;fpdp Gif];jk;gq;fshfpa mjpraq;fisf; fhl;LNtd;.
And I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke.
    4. 31. fu;j;jUila ngupJk; gaq;fuKkhd ehs; tUKd;Nd R+upad; ,UshfTk;> re;jpud; ,uj;jkhfTk; khWk;.
The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come.
    5. 32. mg;nghOJ fu;j;jUila ehkj;ijj; njhOJnfhs;SfpwtndtNdh mtd; ,ul;rpf;fg;gLthd;; fu;j;ju; nrhd;dgb> rPNahd; gu;tjj;jpYk; vUrNykpYk; fu;j;ju; tutiof;Fk; kPjpahapUg;gtu;fsplj;jpYk; ,ul;rpg;G cz;lhapUf;Fk;.
And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the LORD hath said, and in the remnant whom the LORD shall call.
  2. Paul affirms that we should on the name of the exalted “Lord”
    1. I nfhupe;jpau; 1:2. nfhupe;JtpNy fpwp];J ,NaRTf;Fs; gupRj;jkhf;fg;gl;ltu;fshAk;> gupRj;jthd;fshFk;gb miof;fg;gl;ltu;fshAkpUf;fpw NjtDila rigf;Fk;> vq;fSf;Fk; jq;fSf;Fk; Mz;ltuhapUf;fpw ek;Kila fu;j;juhfpa ,NaR fpwp];Jtpd; ehkj;ij vq;Fk; njhOJnfhs;Sfpw midtUf;Fk; vOJfpwjhtJ:
Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours:
  3. In his letter to Timothy, Paul emphasizes the importance of calling on the name of the exalted risen Lord, out of a pure heart
    1. II jPNkhj;NjA 2:22. md;wpAk;> ghypaj;Jf;Fupa ,r;irfSf;F eP tpyfpNahb> Rj;j ,Ujaj;NjhNl fu;j;jiuj; njhOJnfhs;Sfpwtu;fSlNd> ePjpiaAk; tpRthrj;ijAk; md;igAk; rkhjhdj;ijAk; milAk;gb ehL.
Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

5. Christ is the exalted one at the right hand of God
  1. Christ sat down at the right hand of God. The psalm 110 predicted the resurrection and subsequent position of Christ
    1. rq;fPjk; 110:1. fu;j;ju; vd; Mz;ltiu Nehf;fp: ehd; ck;Kila rj;JUf;fis ckf;Fg; ghjgbahf;fpg; NghLk;tiuf;Fk;> ePu; vd;Dila tyJghuprj;jpy; cl;fhUk; vd;whu;.
A Psalm of David. The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.
  2. After resurrection, Jesus was exalted and He sat down at the right hand of God
    1. khw;F 16:19. ,t;tpjkha;f; fu;j;ju; mtu;fSlNd Ngrpdgpd;G> guNyhfj;Jf;F vLj;Jf;nfhs;sg;gl;L> NjtDila tyJ ghuprj;jpy; cl;fhu;e;jhu;.
So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.
  3. Since Christ is exalted, seating at God’s right hand, Paul exhorts the Colossians to look up and live as followers of the exalted Lord and think heavenly things and not on earthly things.
    1. nfhNyhnrau; 3:1. ePq;fs; fpwp];JTld;$l vOe;jJz;lhdhy;> fpwp];J NjtDila tyJghuprj;jpy; tPw;wpUf;Fk; ,lj;jpYs;s Nkyhditfisj; NjLq;fs;.
If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.
    2. 2. G+kpapYs;sitfisay;y> NkyhditfisNa ehLq;fs;.
Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.

6. Christ is the exalted Lord of our lives
  1. If Christ is our Lord, we need to live as Christ demanded. Paul advocates putting off the old garments through the waters of Christian baptism and entering into new life with the garments of risen Lord, hidden with Christ in God.
    1. nfhNyhnrau; 3:5. Mifahy;> tpgrhuk;> mRj;jk;> Nkhfk;> Ju;,r;ir> tpf;fpufhuhjidahd nghUshir Mfpa ,itfisg; G+kpapy; cz;Lgz;Zfpw cq;fs; mtatq;fis mopj;Jg;NghLq;fs;.
Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:
    2. 6. ,itfspd;nghUl;Nl fPo;g;gbahikapd; gps;isfs;Nky; NjtNfhghf;fpid tUk;.
For which things' sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:
    3. 7. ePq;fSk; Kw;fhyj;jpy; mtu;fSf;Fs;Ns rQ;rupj;jNghJ> mitfisr; nra;Jnfhz;Lte;jPu;fs;.
In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them.
    4. 8. ,g;nghONjh NfhgKk; %u;f;fKk; nghwhikAk;> cq;fs; thapy; gpwf;fyhfhj J}\zKk; tk;G thu;j;ijfSkhfpa ,itfisnay;yhk; tpl;LtpLq;fs;.
But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.
    5. 9. xUtUf;nfhUtu; ngha; nrhy;yhjpUq;fs;; gioa kD\idAk; mtd; nra;iffisAk; fise;JNghl;L>

And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:
    7. 11. mjpNy fpNuf;fndd;Wk; A+jndd;Wkpy;iy> tpUj;jNrjdKs;stndd;Wk; tpUj;jNrjdkpy;yhjtndd;Wkpy;iy> Gw[hjpahndd;Wk; GwNjrj;jhndd;Wkpy;iy> mbiknad;Wk; RahjPdndd;Wkpy;iy; fpwp];JNt vy;yhupYk; vy;yhKkhapUf;fpwhu;.
Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all.
    8. 12. Mifahy;> ePq;fs; Njtdhy; njupe;Jnfhs;sg;gl;l gupRj;jUk; gpupaUkha;> cUf;fkhd ,uf;fj;ijAk;> jaitAk;> kdj;jho;ikiaAk;> rhe;jj;ijAk;> ePba nghWikiaAk; jupj;Jf;nfhz;L;
      Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;
    9. 13. xUtiunahUtu; jhq;fp> xUtu;Ngupy; xUtUf;Ff; FiwghL cz;lhdhy;> fpwp];J cq;fSf;F kd;dpj;jJNghy> xUtUf;nfhUtu; kd;dpAq;fs;.
Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.

7. Christ is Lord, invoked in Prayer
  1. Paul included the exalted Lord in every worship and prayer. Christ is worshiped since the Son is considered in equality with God (Phil 2:6)
    1. gpypg;gpau; 2:5. fpwp];J ,NaRtpypUe;j rpe;ijNa cq;fspYk; ,Uf;ff;fltJ;
Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
    2. 6. mtu; NjtDila &gkhapUe;Jk;> NjtDf;Fr; rkkhapUg;gijf; nfhs;isahbd nghUshf vz;zhky;>
Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
  2. Paul prays to God and Christ the exalted Lord. Christ and God the Father direct our steps.
    1. I njrNyhdpf;Nfau; 3:11. ek;Kila gpjhthfpa NjtDk; ek;Kila fu;j;juhfpa ,NaRfpwp];JTk; cq;fsplj;jpw;F vq;fis Neuhf topelj;Jthuhf.
Now God himself and our Father, and our Lord Jesus Christ, direct our way unto you.
  3. Paul asserts that the exalted Lord, will keep us blameless (which God alone can do).
    1. InjrNyhdpf;Nfau; 3:12. ehq;fs; cq;fsplj;jpy; itj;jpUf;fpw md;Gf;nfhg;gha;> ePq;fSk; xUtuplj;jpy; xUtu; itf;Fk; md;gpYk; kw;nwy;yh kD\uplj;jpy; itf;Fk; md;gpYk; fu;j;ju; cq;fisg; ngUfTk; epiyj;Njhq;fTk; nra;J>
And the Lord make you to increase and abound in love one toward another, and toward all men, even as we do toward you:
    2. 13. ,t;tpjkha; ek;Kila fu;j;juhfpa ,NaRfpwp];J jkJ gupRj;jthd;fs; midtNuhLq;$l tUk;NghJ> ePq;fs; ek;Kila gpjhthfpa NjtDf;F Kd;ghfg; gpioaw;w gupRj;jKs;stu;fshapUf;Fk;gb cq;fs; ,Ujaq;fis ];jpug;gLj;Jthuhf.>
To the end he may stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness before God, even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints.

Conclusion

Christ the exalted Lord, has the Name above every name and shares every divine privilege. In equality with God, Christ is now seated at the right hand of God, able to keep us holy and blameless before God. By his death and resurrection, God lifted His Name above every name and above every Kingdom. He is the one who will rule and we will reign with Christ forever. It is incumbent upon us to share this only Name, to every person for salvation and eternal life.
