Christ - The Impoverished Redeemer

Introduction

Through Christ was God in all, and above all, He chose to appear as man (Incarnation), and became poor (impoverished Himself) that we might become rich in Christ. We were poor, wretched and deep in Sin until Christ, chose to became poor for our sakes and took upon the wages of Sin upon Himself, to die as a criminal on our behalf, that we might have life and riches in Christ. In this lesson, we shall Study Christ, through the lens of an Impoverished Redeemer.

The Impoverished Redeemer

1. The Rich becomes poor
  1. Through Christ was the richest person in heaven and on earth, he chooses to humble himself and became poor, that we might become rich
    1. II nfhupe;jpau; 8:9. ek;Kila fu;j;juhfpa ,NaRfpwp];Jtpd; fpUigia mwpe;jpUf;fpwPu;fNs; mtu; IRtupaKs;stuhapUe;Jk;> ePq;fs; mtUila jupj;jpuj;jpdhNy IRtupathd;fshFk;gbf;F> cq;fs;epkpj;jk; jupj;jpuuhdhNu.
For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich.
  2. The generosity of Christ’s incarnation led him to Crucifixion. When he was crucified, the soldiers cast lots even for His clothes. Jesus took the form of a sinful criminal that we might be free from Sin.
    1. Nahthd; 19:23. Nghu;r; Nrtfu; ,NaRitr; rpYitapy; miwe;jgpd;G> mtUila t];jpuq;fis vLj;J> xt;nthU NrtfDf;F xt;nthU gq;fhf ehY gq;fhf;fpdhu;fs;; mq;fpiaAk; vLj;jhu;fs;> me;j mq;fp> ijaypy;yhky; NkNy njhlq;fp KOJk; nea;ag;gl;ljhapUe;jJ.
Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took his garments, and made four parts, to every soldier a part; and also his coat: now the coat was without seam, woven from the top throughout.
    2. 24. mtu;fs;: ,ij ehk; fpopahky;> ahUf;F tUNkh vd;W ,ijf;Fwpj;Jr; rPl;Lg;NghLNthk; vd;W xUtNuhnlhUtu; Ngrpf;nfhz;lhu;fs;. vd; t];jpuq;fisj; jq;fSf;Fs;Ns gq;fpl;L> vd; cilapd;Nky; rPl;Lg;Nghl;lhu;fs; vd;fpw Ntjthf;fpak; epiwNtwj;jf;fjhfg; Nghu;r;Nrtfu; ,g;gbr; nra;jhu;fs;.
They said therefore among themselves, Let us not rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be: that the scripture might be fulfilled, which saith, They parted my raiment among them, and for my vesture they did cast lots. These things therefore the soldiers did.
  3. The phrase ‘he became poor for your sakes’ is a metaphor for incarnation. ‘Through His poverty you might become rich’ is a metaphor for the crucifixion and its benefits for all of us.

2. Born in a stable, having no room at the time of birth
  1. Jesus, being the King of the Universe, became poor and experienced poverty. At the time of birth, Joseph and Mary could not find a room. Hence the stable was the only place to lay the Son of God.
    1. Y}f;fh 2:7. mts; jd; Kjw;Ngwhd Fkhuidg;ngw;W> rj;jpuj;jpNy mtu;fSf;F ,lkpy;yhjpUe;jgbapdhy;> gps;isiaj; Jzpfspy; Rw;wp> Kd;dizapNy fplj;jpdhs;.
And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
  2. Jesus continued His ministry, walking on the streets of Galilee. The purpose of His incarnation was Crucifixion and Hence Christ was focused on His Mission.
    1. khw;F 8:31. my;yhkYk;> kD\Fkhud; gyghLfs; gl;L> %g;guhYk; gpujhd MrhupauhYk; NtjghufuhYk; Mfhjtndd;W js;sg;gl;L> nfhy;yg;gl;L> %d;W ehisf;Fg;gpd;G capu;j;njOe;jpUf;fNtz;banjd;W mtu;fSf;Fg; Nghjpf;fj;njhlq;fpdhu;.
And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders, and of the chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.

3. Foxes have holes.
  1. Following Christ involves Sacrifice. He himself did not have a comfortable place to lay his head on. Christ was focused on his purpose leaving us an example to follow.
    1. 19. mg;nghOJ> Ntjghufd; xUtd; te;J: NghjfNu! ePu; vq;Nf NghdhYk; ehd; ck;ikg; gpd;gw;wp tUNtd; vd;whd;.
And a certain scribe came, and said unto him, Master, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest.
    2. 20. mjw;F ,NaR: eupfSf;Ff; FopfSk; Mfhaj;Jg;gwitfSf;Ff; $LfSk; cz;L; kD\FkhuDf;Nfh jiyrha;f;f ,lkpy;iy vd;whu;.
And Jesus saith unto him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.

4. Stripped of Glory
  1. Jesus stripped Himself of His heavenly glory when He walked on this earth. This proves that Jesus was not initially man, but became man (humbled himself), that we might share the heavenly glory.
    1. gpypg;gpau; 2:5. fpwp];J ,NaRtpypUe;j rpe;ijNa cq;fspYk; ,Uf;ff;fltJ
Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
    2. 6. mtu; NjtDila &gkhapUe;Jk;> NjtDf;Fr; rkkhapUg;gijf; nfhs;isahbd nghUshf vz;zhky;>
Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
    3. 7. jk;ikj;jhNk ntWikahf;fp> mbikapd; &gnkLj;J> kD\u; rhayhdhu;.
But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
    4. 8. mtu; kD\&gkha;f; fhzg;gl;L> kuzgupae;jk;> mjhtJ rpYitapd; kuzgupae;jKk; fPo;g;gbe;jtuhfp> jk;ikj;jhNk jho;j;jpdhu;.
And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

5. Humility and Remembering the poor
  1. Just as Christ humbled Himself, we must humble ourselves and consider one another.
    1. gpypg;gpau; 2:3. xd;iwAk; thjpdhyhtJ tPz;ngUikapdhyhtJ nra;ahky;> kdj;jho;ikapdhNy xUtiunahUtu; jq;fspYk; Nkd;ikahdtu;fshf vz;zf;fltPu;fs;.
Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.
    2. 4. mtdtd; jdf;fhditfisay;y> gpwUf;fhditfisAk; Nehf;Fthdhf.
Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.
    3. 5. fpwp];J ,NaRtpypUe;j rpe;ijNa cq;fspYk; ,Uf;ff;fltJ
Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
  2. Christ remembered us in our lowly state. We should also remember others who are in poor both materially and spiritually.
    1. fyhj;jpau; 2:9. vdf;F mspf;fg;gl;l fpUigia mwpe;jNghJ> J}z;fshf vz;zg;gl;l ahf;NfhGk;> NfghTk;> NahthDk;> jhq;fs; tpUj;jNrjdKs;stu;fSf;Fk;> ehq;fs; Gw[hjpfSf;Fk; gpurq;fpf;Fk;gb> me;epNahe;epa If;fpaj;jpw;F milahskhf vdf;Fk; gu;dghTf;Fk; tyJif nfhLj;J>
And when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given unto me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship; that we should go unto the heathen, and they unto the circumcision.
    2. 10. jupj;jpuiu epidj;Jf;nfhs;Sk;gbf;Fkhj;jpuk; nrhd;dhu;fs;; mg;gbr; nra;Ak;gb mjw;F Kd;dNk ehDk; fUj;Js;stdhapUe;Njd;.
Only they would that we should remember the poor; the same which I also was forward to do.

6. Exemplary paradigm
  1. Jesus, the impoverished Redeemer, emptied Himself of His Glory and came to serve us, thus showing an example, that we must empty ourselves of our pride and be willing to wash one another’s feet.
    1. khw;F 10:44. cq;fspy; vtdhfpYk; Kjd;ikahdtdhapUf;f tpUk;gpdhy;> mtd; vy;yhUf;Fk; Copaf;fhudhapUf;ff;fltd;.
And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all.
    2. 45. mg;gbNa> kD\FkhuDk; Copaq;nfhs;Sk;gb tuhky;> CopaQ;nra;aTk;> mNefiu kPl;Fk;nghUshfj; jk;Kila [Ptidf;nfhLf;fTk; te;jhu; vd;whu;.
For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

7. Supremacy of Christ (The exalted One)
  1. Since Christ impoverished Himself and humbled Himself in appearing as man (Incarnation), God exalted Him and gave Him a name above every name.
    1. gpypg;gpau; 2:7. jk;ikj;jhNk ntWikahf;fp> mbikapd; &gnkLj;J> kD\u; rhayhdhu;.
But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
    2. 8. mtu; kD\&gkha;f; fhzg;gl;L> kuzgupae;jk;> mjhtJ rpYitapd; kuzgupae;jKk; fPo;g;gbe;jtuhfp> jk;ikj;jhNk jho;j;jpdhu;.
And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
    3. 9. Mjyhy; Njtd; vy;yhtw;wpw;Fk; Nkyhf mtiu cau;j;jp>
Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
    4. 10. ,NaRtpd; ehkj;jpy; thNdhu; G+jyj;Njhu; G+kpapd; fPohNdhUila Koq;fhy; ahTk; Klq;Fk;gbf;Fk;>
      That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
    5. 11. gpjhthfpa NjtDf;F kfpikahf ,NaRfpwp];J fu;j;jnud;W ehTfs; ahTk; mwpf;ifgz;Zk;gbf;Fk;> vy;yh ehkj;jpw;Fk; Nkyhd ehkj;ij mtUf;Fj; je;jUspdhu;.
And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
  2. Through Christ’s impoverishment, we have become rich and received all heavenly blessings in Christ. Thanks be to God, the father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
    1. vNgrpau; 1:3. ek;Kila fu;j;juhfpa ,NaRfpwp];Jtpd; gpjhthfpa NjtDf;F ];Njhj;jpuk;; mtu; fpwp];JTf;Fs; cd;djq;fspNy Mtpf;Fupa rfy MrPu;thjj;jpdhYk; ek;ik MrPu;tjpj;jpUf;fpwhu;.
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:
    2. 4. jkf;FKd;ghf ehk; md;gpy; gupRj;jKs;stu;fSk; Fw;wkpy;yhjtu;fSkhapUg;gjw;F> mtu; cyfj;Njhw;wj;Jf;F Kd;Nd fpwp];JTf;Fs; ek;ikj; njupe;Jnfhz;lgbNa>
According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:

Conclusion

Since Christ became the impoverished Redeemer, we have all become rich in Christ and received both heavenly and earthly blessings. The once impoverished Redeemer, will come again, as Lord and King, to take His adopted Sons back Home, so we might co-reign with Christ. His Suffering led to our freedom. He Impoverishment led to our riches both now and forever.
