Christ the Eschatological Son of God & Eschatological Judge
|
|
Introduction
|
The greek word ‘eschatos’ means ‘last’. The word ‘logos’ means ‘study’. Eschatology is the part of theology concerned with death, judgement, and the final destiny of the soul and of humankind. Jesus Christ is the Son of God who will be the final judge(eschatological judge).

|
Eschatological Son of God & Judge
|
|
1. Jesus is not only the incarnate Son(God made flesh), but also the eternal Son of God with power.
|
- Jesus is Davidic’s son and Eternal Son, by His resurrection from the dead. Since Christ rose from the dead, He is the Eternal Son of God with Power.

And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
- The eternal Son of God is also the eschatological judge. The heavenly Messiah, must rule until all his enemies are subdued, including death

2. Coming (Parousia) of the Son of God is for both divine judgment and salvation.
|
- The ‘day of the Lord’ is a day that includes both divine judgment and salvation. The ‘Lord’ is identified as ‘Jesus Christ’. It is Christ who will come and judge. Although the role of Judgment belongs to God, Jesus will be the executor of the divine role of judgment.
-
I nfhupe;jpau; 1:8. ek;Kila fu;j;juhfpa ,NaR fpwp];Jtpd; ehspNy ePq;fs; Fw;wQ;rhl;lg;glhjtu;fshapUf;Fk;gb KbTgupae;jk; mtu; cq;fis ];jpug;gLj;Jthu;.

- The ‘day of the Lord’ is near but Paul exhorts believers not to be shaken in mind or troubled, but to trust in God’s Word only regarding eschatological events.
-
II njrNyhdpf;Nfau; 2:2. xU MtpapdhyhtJ> thu;j;ijapdhyhtJ> vq;fsplj;jpypUe;J te;jjha;j; Njhd;Wfpw xU epUgj;jpdhyhtJ> fpwp];JtpDila ehs; rkPgkhapUf;fpwjhfr; nrhy;yg;gl;lhy;> clNd rQ;ryg;glhkYk; fyq;fhkYk; ,Uq;fs;.

3. One must be prepared for the eschatological event, ‘the day of the Lord’, when Jesus will come to judge..
|
- Paul exhorts believers to be blameless until the coming of the eschatological Son of God and the Judge

- The coming of the eschatological judge, is a sure event. Even Zechariah prophesied about the coming of the Lord.

4. Ascent and descent
|
- The psalmist describes the ascension of God with the following verse.
-

And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven.
- St. Paul affirmed that the Lord himself will descend from heaven with the voice of an archangel and trumpet of God.
-

For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

|
5. Purpose of the coming of Eschatological King
|
- There is more than one reason for the coming of the Eschatological King such as 1) to be glorified among His saints and 2) to punish those who did not obey the gospel.
-
II njrNyhdpf;Nfau; 1:6. cq;fis cgj;jputg;gLj;Jfpwtu;fSf;F cgj;jputj;ijAk;> cgj;jputg;gLfpw cq;fSf;F vq;fNshNl$l ,isg;ghWjiyAk; gpujpgydhff;nfhLg;gJ NjtDf;F ePjpahapUf;fpwNj.

When he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day.
|
|
6. Eschatological Judge (Christ) will judge His People
|
- Paul alluded to the final judgment of believers, when he warned the Thessalonians that the ‘Lord’ is the avenger and vengeance belongs to God.
-
I njrNyhdpf;Nfau; 4:6. ,e;j tp\aj;jpy; xUtDk; kPwhkYk; jd; rNfhjuid tQ;rpahkYk; ,Uf;fNtz;Lk;; Kd;dNk ehq;fs; cq;fSf;Fr; nrhy;yp> rhl;rpahf vr;rupj;jgbNa ,g;gbg;gl;l tp\aq;fnsy;yhtw;iwAq;Fwpj;Jf; fu;j;ju; ePjpiar; rupf;fl;LfpwtuhapUf;fpwhu;.
That no man go beyond and defraud his brother in any matter: because that the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also have forewarned you and testified.
- Believers should be careful not to judge one another, since Jesus Himself will bring to light hidden things of the hearts of believers.
-
I nfhupe;jpau; 4:3. MapDk; ehd; cq;fshNyahtJ kD\Uila epahaehspd; tprhuizapdhNyahtJ jPu;g;igg;ngWtJ vdf;F kpfTk; mw;g fhupakhapUf;fpwJ ehDk; vd;idf;Fwpj;Jj; jPu;g;Gr;nrhy;Yfpwjpy;iy.
But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged of you, or of man's judgment: yea, I judge not mine own self.
-
4. vd;dplj;jpy; ehd; ahnjhU Fw;wj;ijAk; mwpNad;; MfpYk; mjpdhNy ehd; ePjpkhdhfpwjpy;iy; vd;id epahak; tprhupf;fpwtu; fu;j;jNu.
For I know nothing by myself; yet am I not hereby justified: but he that judgeth me is the Lord.
-
5. Mdjhy;> fu;j;ju; tUksTk; ePq;fs; fhyj;Jf;FKd;Nd ahnjhd;iwf;Fwpj;Jk; jPu;g;Gr;nrhy;yhjpUq;fs;> ,Uspy; kiwe;jpUf;fpwitfis mtu; ntspauq;fkhf;fp> ,Ujaq;fspd; NahridfisAk; ntspg;gLj;Jthu;; mg;nghOJ mtdtDf;Fupa Gfo;r;rp Njtdhy; cz;lhFk;.
Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God.
|
|
7. Eschatological Judge (Christ) will be the judge of the Wicked.
|
- Jesus (the Lord = Adonai), will take the role of Judging the wicked people, who do not obey the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The wicked will receive everlasting destruction.
-
II njrNyhdpf;Nfau; 1:9. me;ehspNy jk;Kila gupRj;jthd;fspy; kfpikg;glj;jf;ftuhAk;> ePq;fs; vq;fSila rhl;rpia tpRthrpj;jgbapdhNy cq;fsplj;jpYk;> tpRthrpf;fpwtu;fnsy;yhuplj;jpYk; Mr;rupag;glj;jf;ftuhAk;> mtu; tUk;NghJ>
Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;
-
10. mtu;fs; fu;j;jUila re;epjhdj;jpypUe;Jk;> mtUila ty;yiknghUe;jpa kfpikapypUe;Jk; ePq;fyhfp> epj;jpa mopthfpa jz;lidia milthu;fs;.
When he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day.
- The risen Christ will assume the role of divine judgment. The eschatological judge (Christ) will slay the wicked with the breath of his mouth.
-
II njrNyhdpf;Nfau; 2:8. ePf;fg;gLk;NghJ> me;j mf;fpukf;fhud; ntspg;gLthd;; mtidf; fu;j;ju; jk;Kila thapd; Rthrj;jpdhNy mopj;J> jk;Kila tUifapd; gpurd;dj;jpdhNy ehrk;gz;Zthu;.
And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:
- Jesus prophesied weeping and gnashing of teeth for the workers of iniquity.
-
Y}f;fh 13:27. MdhYk; mtu;: ePq;fs; vt;tplj;jhNuh> cq;fis mwpNad;> mf;fpukf;fhuuhfpa ePq;fnsy;yhUk; vd;idtpl;L mfd;WNghq;fs; vd;W nrhy;thu; vd;W cq;fSf;Fr; nrhy;YfpNwd;.
But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity.

There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out.

Conclusion
|
Jesus is the Lord (Adonai) of all. He was the incarnate Savior. He is also the future Judge (eschatological Judge). Once the final judgment is completed, Jesus will hand over the King to the Father. The righteous will receive rewards of eternal life while the wicked will receive the rewards of everlasting contempt, prepared for the devil and his angels.
