Christ - Sharer of divine rights/privileges (prerogatives)
|
|
Introduction
|
Christ shared rights and privileges that are divine. In this lesson, we will explore the rights and privileges (prerogatives) that Christ accepted and assumed. These titles and privileges prove that Christ is the Lord (Christological import), sharing divine prerogatives. Paul frequently used the attributes of Adonai (LORD) in the Old Testament, to refer to Christ as the Lord, in new Testament.

Christ - Sharer of Divine Rights (prerogatives)
|
|
1. Boast in the “Lord”
|
- Paul affirms that Christ is the Lord, by encouraging as to, “boast in the Lord”, just as Jeremiah did in the Old Testament.
-

That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.
- Jeremiah exhorted us to boast (glory) in the LORD. Paul echoes the words of Jeremiah and confirms that the Lord proclaimed in the book of Jeremiah is none other that Christ Himself.
-

But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the LORD.
|
|
2. Mind of the LORD
|
- Having the mind of the LORD is synonymous with having the mind of Christ. Isaiah wonders at the majesty of our God by admiring the mind of the LORD
-
Vrhah 40:12. jz;zPu;fisj; jkJ ifg;gpbahy; mse;J> thdq;fis [hzstha;g; gpukhzpj;J> G+kpapd; kz;iz kuf;fhypy; mlf;fp> gu;tjq;fisj; Jyhf;NfhyhYk;> kiyfisj; juhrhYk; epWj;jtu; ahu;?

Who hath directed the Spirit of the LORD, or being his counsellor hath taught him?
- Paul affirms that we have the mind of Christ. Knowing Christ is knowing God. Having the mind of Christ is equivalent to being Godly (Godliness in our lives). Thus Jesus is the sharer of divine attributes, making Christ as Lord!
-
I nfhupe;jpau; 2:16. fu;j;jUf;Fg; Nghjpf;fj;jf;fjhf mtUila rpe;ijia mwpe;jtd; ahu;? vq;fSf;Nfh fpwp];Jtpd; rpe;ij cz;lhapUf;fpwJ.
For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.

3. The LORD be with you
|
- Adonai’s (LORD’s) presence was critical in the Old Testament for success. In the book of Ruth, Boaz greeted the reapers by saying, ‘LORD be with you’. The same title or phrase is used by Paul to refer to Christ, thus making Christ as the person who shares divine titles.
-
&j; 2:4. mg;nghOJ Nghth]; ngj;nyNfkpypUe;J te;J> mWf;fpwtu;fisg; ghu;j;J: fu;j;ju; cq;fNshNl ,Ug;ghuhf vd;whd;; mjw;F mtu;fs;: fu;j;ju; ck;ik MrPu;tjpg;ghuhf vd;whu;fs;.
And, behold, Boaz came from Bethlehem, and said unto the reapers, The LORD be with you. And they answered him, The LORD bless thee.
- Paul greets the believers in Thessalonica with the phrase, “The Lord be with you”. Presence of God in the Old Testament is thus equivalent to the presence of Christ with us in the New Testament.
-
II njrNyhdpf;Nfau; 3:16. rkhjhdj;jpd; fu;j;ju;jhNk vg;nghOJk; rfytpjj;jpYk; cq;fSf;Fr; rkhjhdj;ijj; je;jUSthuhf. fu;j;ju; cq;fsidtNuhLq;$l ,Ug;ghuhf.
Now the Lord of peace himself give you peace always by all means. The Lord be with you all.
|
|
4. Nearness of the LORD
|
- David in the Old Testament affirmed that the LORD is near to those who call Him. Christ shares the same divine prerogative, as Paul reuses the similar words in his letters.
-
rq;fPjk; 145:18. jk;ik Nehf;fpf; $g;gpLfpw ahtUf;Fk;> cz;ikaha;j; jk;ik Nehf;fpf; $g;gpLfpw ahtUf;Fk;> fu;j;ju; rkPgkhapUf;fpwhu;.
The LORD is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth.
- Just as the God is near in the Old Testament, Christ is near (Immanuel), in the New Testament. Paul encourages the believers to be anxious for nothing since Adonai (LORD) in Christ, is near.
-
gpypg;gpau; 4:5. cq;fs; rhe;jFzk; vy;yh kD\Uf;Fk; njupe;jpUg;gjhf. fu;j;ju; rkPgkhapUf;fpwhu;.
Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.

Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

|
5. Divine presence of the LORD
|
- God’s presence went before Israel. The fire and cloud in the wilderness were symbols of His Presence. Moses refused to move, unless God’s presence went with him.
-
ahj;jpuhfkk; 33:14. mjw;F mtu;: vd; rKfk; cdf;F Kd;ghfr; nry;Yk;> ehd; cdf;F ,isg;ghWjy; jUNtd; vd;whu;.

And he said unto him, If thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence.
- Paul affirms his believers that the Presence of Christ will be with them. By using similar titles, Paul highlights the divine titles that Jesus bore on earth, making Christ equivalent to God.
-

For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Are not even ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming?
|
|
6. Glory of the LORD
|
- Moses sought to see the glory of Adonai (LORD). Christ hid him in the cleft of the rock as He showed him a glimpse of the glory.
-

And he said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show mercy on whom I will show mercy.

And it shall come to pass, while my glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a clift of the rock, and will cover thee with my hand while I pass by:
- Paul affirms that when believers turn to Christ by the Spirit, they will behold the, ‘glory of the Lord’. The glory of God in the past, is now likened to the glory of Christ and believers will share it. Christ’s glory is that of Yahweh.
-
II nfhupe;jpau; 3:18. ehnky;yhUk; jpwe;j Kfkha;f; fu;j;jUila kfpikiaf; fz;zhbapNy fhz;fpwJNghyf; fz;L> MtpahapUf;fpw fu;j;juhy; me;jr; rhayhfj;jhNd kfpikapd;Nky; kfpikaile;J kW≫gLfpNwhk;.
But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

7. Power of the LORD
|
- The power of God is manifested both in creation and redemption. The psalmist wonders at the power of God.
-

Thou hast a mighty arm: strong is thy hand, and high is thy right hand.
- God’s power is assumed to be the power of the exalted Lord Jesus. His power is manifested in our lives when we depend on Him and Jesus is the power of God and wisdom of God.
-
I nfhupe;jpau; 1:22. A+ju;fs; milahsj;ijf; Nfl;fpwhu;fs;> fpNuf;fu; Qhdj;ijj; NjLfpwhu;fs;;

But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.

Conclusion
|
Jesus shared divine titles that can only be attributed to God. Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God. He is God in flesh. In this lesson, we have learnt some of the divine prerogatives (titles, privileges) that Jesus shared. It is incumbent upon us to share the majesty and glory of our God, who gave His life for us, to everyone we meet.
