Chapter - 11

Saving and Investing
|
|
Introduction
|
Should we save everything? The bible talks of a rich man who had plenty and wanted to save all. The Lord rebuked the rich man as shown in the passage below. Saving without giving to the Lord will cause our hearts fixated on earthly things. When we save and also give to the Lord, we will be blessed in what we do.

Saving & Investing
|
|
1. Purpose of Saving. There are three acceptable purposes of saving.
|
- We should save to provide for the family
-
I jPNkhj;NjA 5:8. xUtd; jd; nrhe;j [dq;fisAk;> tpNr\khfj; jd; tPl;lhiuAk; tprhupahkw;Nghdhy;> mtd; tpRthrj;ij kWjypj;jtDk;> mtpRthrpapYk; nfl;ltDkhapUg;ghd;.
But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.
- We should save to become financially free to serve the Lord
-
Although Mephibosheth got financial freedom, we do NOT see any contribution from his side towards the Kingdom of God. Our financial freedom should cause us to spend more time with the Lord!
-
II rhKNty; 9:6. rTypd; Fkhudhfpa Nahdj;jhdpd; kfd; NktpNghNrj; jhtPjpdplj;jpy; te;jNghJ> Kfq;Fg;Gw tpOe;J tzq;fpdhd;; mg;nghOJ jhtPJ: NktpNghNrj;Nj vd;whd;; mtd;: ,Njh> mbNad; vd;whd;.
Now when Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, was come unto David, he fell on his face, and did reverence. And David said, Mephibosheth. And he answered, Behold thy servant!

And David said unto him, Fear not: for I will surely show thee kindness for Jonathan thy father's sake, and will restore thee all the land of Saul thy father; and thou shalt eat bread at my table continually.
- We should save to start a business that honors God
-
The book of proverbs talks of a woman who is in business. It is biblical to start businesses and run them for the glory of God and to serve the people.
-

She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.

|
2. Avoid Love of Money
|
- Money should be considered as a tool to operate in this world. The love of money is considered as the root of evil, if we live only to make money and spend it.
-
I jPNkhj;NjA 6:9. IRtupathd;fshf tpUk;Gfpwtu;fs; NrhjidapYk; fz;zpapYk;> kD\iuf; Nfl;bYk; moptpYk; mkpo;j;Jfpw kjpNfLk; NrjKkhd gytpj ,r;irfspYk; tpOfpwhu;fs;.
But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.
-
10. gz Mir vy;yhj; jPikf;Fk; NtuhapUf;fpwJ; rpyu; mij ,r;rpj;J> tpRthrj;ijtpl;L tOtp> mNef NtjidfshNy jq;fis cUtf; Fj;jpf;nfhz;bUf;fpwhu;fs;.
For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
-
11. ePNah> NjtDila kD\Nd ,itfis tpl;Nlhb> ePjpiaAk; Njtgf;jpiaAk; tpRthrj;ijAk; md;igAk; nghWikiaAk; rhe;jFzj;ijAk; milAk;gb ehL.
But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.
- Money should be our slave to do the things of God. Getting rich should not be our sole aim. Rather, we should pursue God as No.1 in our life and use everything else as instruments that God gives to accomplish His purposes. Crown (2003) stated that, "Nothing is wrong with becoming wealthy if it is a by-product of being a faithful steward".
|
|
3. Overcome the temptation to become rich
|
- Jesus was exposed to all the kingdoms of the world by Satan, however Jesus overcame the temptation by the power of the Holy Spirit. We must overcome the lure of money, greed and want.
-
Y}f;fh 4:5. gpd;G gprhR mtiu cau;e;j kiyapd;Nky; nfhz;LNgha;> cyfj;jpd; rfy uh[;aq;fisAk; xU epkp\j;jpNy mtUf;Ff; fhz;gpj;J:
And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, showed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.

And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it.

And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

|
4. How do we save and how much to save?
|
- We need to save for the future. The wise man saves for the rainy season.
-
ePjpnkhopfs; 21:20. Ntz;ba jputpaKk; vz;nzAk; QhdthDila thr];jyj;jpy; cz;L; %lNdh mijr; nrytopj;Jg;NghLfpwhd;.
There is treasure to be desired and oil in the dwelling of the wise; but a foolish man spendeth it up.
- Save like Joseph, by spending less today, in order to have something to spend for tomorrow.
-
Mjpahfkk; 50:20. ePq;fs; vdf;Fj; jPiknra;a epidj;jPu;fs;; NjtNdh> ,g;nghOJ ele;JtUfpwgbNa> ntF [dq;fis capNuhNl fhf;Fk;gbf;F> mij ed;ikahf Kbag;gz;zpdhu;.
But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.
-
21. Mjyhy;> gag;glhjpUq;fs;; ehd; cq;fisAk; cq;fs; Foe;ijfisAk; guhkupg;Ngd; vd;W> mtu;fSf;F MWjy; nrhy;yp> mtu;fNshNl gl;rkha;g; Ngrpdhd;.
Now therefore fear ye not: I will nourish you, and your little ones. And he comforted them, and spake kindly unto them.
- Save for short-term
-
Save for short-term emergencies such as loss of job, transfer of job, or incidental expenses that have not been planned
- Save for long-term
-
Save for the retirement and for the education of our children
-
Save for the days that we can no longer work
|
|
5. Investing
|
- We must consider saving accounts that give us interest (simple or compound). Little drops could become huge in the long term. It is the long term saving that gives enormous benefit. One should stay away for quick-rick shemes.
-
ePjpnkhopfs; 21:5. [hf;fpuijAs;stDila epidTfs; nry;tj;Jf;Fk;> gjWfpwtDila epidTfs; jupj;jpuj;Jf;Fk; VJthFk;.
The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness; but of every one that is hasty only to want.
-
6. ngha;ehtpdhy; nghUisr; rk;ghjpg;gJ rhitj; NjLfpwtu;fs; tpLfpw Rthrk;NghypUf;Fk;.
The getting of treasures by a lying tongue is a vanity tossed to and fro of them that seek death.
|
|
6. Stay away from quick-rich schemes.
|
- The word of God commands to work. The diligent man increases in riches. We should stay away from quick-rich schemes such as Gambling.
-
gpurq;fp 5:14. me;j IRtupak; tpf;fpdj;jhy; mope;JNghfpwJ; mtd; xU Gj;jpuidg; ngWfpwhd;> mtd; ifapy; ahnjhd;Wk; ,y;iy.
But those riches perish by evil travail: and he begetteth a son, and there is nothing in his hand.
|
|
7. Inheritance and Wills
|
- We need to leave inheritance to our children.
-
ePjpnkhopfs; 13:22. ey;ytd; jd; gps;isfspd; gps;isfSf;Fr; Rje;juk; itj;Jg;Nghfpwhd;: ghtpapd; M];jpNah ePjpkhDf;fhf Nru;j;Jitf;fg;gLk;.
A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.
- We need to write the "WILL", so that our children will receive all our estates. This is one way that we can set the house and leave the house in order.
-
II ,uh[hf;fs; 20:1. me;ehl;fspy; vNrf;fpah tpahjpg;gl;L kuzj;Jf;F VJthapUe;jhd;; mg;nghOJ MNkhj;rpd; Fkhudhfpa Vrhah vd;Dk; jPu;f;fjuprp mtdplj;jpy; te;J> mtid Nehf;fp: ePu; ckJ tPl;Lf;fhupaj;ij xOq;Fg;gLj;Jk;; ePu; gpiof;fkhl;Bu;> kupj;Jg;NghtPu; vd;W fu;j;ju; nrhy;Yfpwhu; vd;whd;.
In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz came to him, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Set thine house in order; for thou shalt die, and not live.
|
|
Conclusion
|
Naked we came and naked we shall return. Whatever the Lord gives (land or money), we should use it for God and leave it as inheritance to our family, children and church. May the Lord lead you to make the best of your life in accordance with His Word.
