Honesty in Finance
|
|
Introduction
|
From the boardroom to the petty shops, there is a cry for honesty in financial matters. God wants us to be honest in our financial matters. If we are faithful in little, God will set us over much. In this lesson, we will study the role of Honesty in building Financial Wealth.

He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much.

Honesty and Finance
|
|
1. Dishonesty is an abomination in God's Sight
|
- The word of the Lord prohibits dishonesty. We must be truthful in all (not just few) our financial matters.

Divers weights are an abomination unto the LORD; and a false balance is not good.
- God hates lying lips

Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are his delight.
- God commanded the people of Israel to refrain from stealing

Ye shall not steal, neither deal falsely, neither lie one to another.

|
2. God requires Absolute Honesty
|
- Abraham did not take anything that was not his. Abraham was unwilling to take even a thread or shoelace from the spoils of the war. We should make a covenant not to steal even a pen, or notebook from our employers.
-

That I will not take from a thread even to a shoelatchet, and that I will not take any thing that is thine, lest thou shouldest say, I have made Abram rich:

3. Honesty can save one from the fall
|
- Being honest can save life. A couple tried to hide their debts and obtain the loan from the bank. When mortgage pressures arose, the family lost the house and the suffered separation. Honest dealings with the bank would have saved their life and family. Honest dealings will always save you. Dishonest dealings will take even what is ours!

4. Teach Honesty to your Children
|
- Honest has to be taught to our children. When a child brings a pen or pencil or dollar, from the school that is not his, we must rebuke that behavior and ask the Child to return it to the School. The Child should be taught the virtue of Honesty in small things such as the stolen pencil.
-

Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
|
|
5. Dishonesty dwindles wealth
|
- A stolen property will eventually leave us more broke. If the clerk in the shop charges for only 3 items, when we have bought 4 items, we should immediately bring that to the clerk's attention.
-
ePjpnkhopfs; 13:11. tQ;ridahy; Njbd nghUs; Fiwe;JNghk;; ifg;ghlha;r; Nru;f;fpwtNdh tpUj;jpailthd;.
Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase.
|
|
6. Bribes blind a person
|
- A bribe is anything given to a person to influence him to do something illegal or wrong (Crown, 2003). Bribes are prohibited in scripture. We must refrain from receiving bribes and giving bribes. We must totally depend on the Lord for financial victory.
-
ahj;jpuhfkk; 23:8. gupjhdk; thq;fhjpUg;ghahf; gupjhdk; ghu;itAs;stu;fisf; FUlhf;fp> ePjpkhd;fspd; thu;j;ijfisg; Gul;Lk;.
And thou shalt take no gift: for the gift blindeth the wise, and perverteth the words of the righteous.

7. Blessings and Curses
|
- Integrity brings blessings and wealth.

In the house of the righteous is much treasure: but in the revenues of the wicked is trouble.
- Honesty gives long life
-
ePjpnkhopfs; 12:19. rj;jpa cjL vd;Wk; epiyj;jpUf;Fk;; ngha; ehNth xU epkp\khj;jpuk; ,Uf;Fk;.
The lip of truth shall be established for ever: but a lying tongue is but for a moment.
- Dishonesty brings trouble and family problems
-
ePjpnkhopfs; 15:27. nghUshirf;fhud; jd; tPl;ilf; fiyf;fpwhd;; gupjhdq;fis ntWf;fpwtNdh gpiog;ghd;.
He that is greedy of gain troubleth his own house; but he that hateth gifts shall live.
- Dishonesty brings death
-
ePjpnkhopfs; 21:6. ngha;ehtpdhy; nghUisr; rk;ghjpg;gJ rhitj; NjLfpwtu;fs; tpLfpw Rthrk;NghypUf;Fk;.
The getting of treasures by a lying tongue is a vanity tossed to and fro of them that seek death.

Conclusion
|
God demands absolute honesty. The wealth of the righteous will increase but the wealth gained through dishonesty will dwindle. May the Holy Spirit direct our words, thoughts and actions, as we build our financial future truly upon the word of God. God will surely bless the righteous, as He blessed Abraham.
