1. Association matter

  1. Lot became rich
    1. Genesis 13:1 And Abram went up out of Egypt, he, and his wife, and all that he had, and Lot with him, into the south.
    2. Genesis 13:2 And Abram was very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold.
    3. Genesis 13:5 And Lot also, which went with Abram, had flocks, and herds, and tents.

2. Spirit of quarrel

  1. Lot's family quarreled
    1. Genesis 13:7 And there was a strife between the herdmen of Abram's cattle and the herdmen of Lot's cattle: and the Canaanite and the Perizzite dwelled then in the land.

3. Spirit of peace

  1. Abraham loved peace
    1. Genesis 13:8 And Abram said unto Lot, Let there be no strife, I pray thee, between me and thee, and between my herdmen and thy herdmen; for we be brethren.
  2. Casting lots is good
    1. Proverbs 18:18 The lot causeth contentions to cease, and parteth between the mighty.

4. Choosing dwelling place

  1. Territorial spirit affect
    1. Genesis 13:10, 13 And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt, as thou comest unto Zoar.
      But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the LORD exceedingly.

5. Lot's city raided

  1. Spirit of city opens doors for attack
    1. Philippians 2:2-5 Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.
      Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.
      Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.
      Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
    2. Lot was taken while Abraham was at peace
      1. Safety comes from God
      2. Psalms 127:1 Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.
  2. Escape to mountain
    1. Extremism preferred and not mediocrity
      1. Genesis 19:17 And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth abroad, that he said, Escape for thy life; look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed.
    2. World and devil like each other.
    3. Drinking and eating like each other
    4. Body crave for world while spirit craves for heaven
    5. You cannot serve both
      1. Eternal light or eternal darkness
      2. Eternal life or eternal damnation
  3. Not being in the right place is dislocation
    1. Enemy first dislocates you to kill you
      1. Genesis 19:19 Behold now, thy servant hath found grace in thy sight, and thou hast magnified thy mercy, which thou hast shewed unto me in saving my life; and I cannot escape to the mountain, lest some evil take me, and I die:
  4. Lot's looked back. Look back and you lose
    1. Put hands to plough and keep forward
      1. Luke 9:62 And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.
    2. God wants you not to look back at sinful city
      1. Psalms 1:1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
    3. Loses her life for looking back
      1. Look back to go back?
      2. Genesis 19:26 But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.
  5. Lot drunk and influenced by world
    1. Culture
      1. Luke 17:28 Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded;
    2. Incest out of drunkenness
      1. Genesis 19:33 And they made their father drink wine that night: and the firstborn went in, and lay with her father; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose.

Conclusion

  • Be influenced by Spirit of God
    • Matthew 4:1 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.
  • Be follower of God
    • Ephesians 5:1 Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;
  • Be influenced by God and love of God
    • Ephesians 5:2 And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.
  • Escape the world
    • Ephesians 5:8, 11 For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light: And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.
  • Be drunk with Spirit of God
    • Ephesians 5:18-19 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;
